Saints' Days, Part 2

Each day of the year has the names of certain Christian saints associated with it, although there is no universally accepted calendar of name-days. Names can be linked to more than one day if they were borne by more than one saint. In Catholic countries, a Saint's Day is celebrated in a similar way to a birthday. The feast day is usually the day of death, the first day of the saint's life in heaven, but it can be the date on which relics were moved to a shrine. The Western (Roman Catholic) Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church often use different days, particularly for the early saints. The Roman Calendar was revised in 1969 and some saints' days were moved. The cults of some saints, often those of doubtful existence, were suppressed or reduced to local status.
