Tancorix Belisaria, Third Tribune of the 6th Legion.  Medium Human Male.

Overview

Third Tribune Tancorix of the Gaels is the only native Gael ever granted a position of command in the Empire. When Legate Belisarius first took command of the 6th Legion, Tancorix was a minor Lord under the sovereignty of then-King David of the Mabeans. He was captured in battle and, instead of being shipped off to Zeth as a prize, the Legate took him as his personal slave (the only slave the Legate is known to have personally owned). Tancorix proved to be a willing advisor to his new master, informing him of the tactics of his former colleagues. It was in the Battle of Storms that Tancorix proved just how loyal he was. The Legate’s Third Tribune had fallen in battle near Tancorix and the cohort thrown into chaos. Instead of fleeing, Tancorix threw the fallen Tribune’s armor over his body, placed the Tribune’s helmet on his head, and rallied the cohort. Before the men realized that the man leading them was not their Tribune, the battle was won, partially due to Tancorix’ efforts and mastery of tactics. Impressed by his slave’s actions, the Legate awarded him his liberty, making him a citizen and a soldier on the spot. It took Tancorix only five years to become the actual Third Tribune, and he has served faithfully throughout his term.

Tancorix is a large man, towering over his fellow soldiers at some six and a half feet tall. His long, red hair and thick beard are an anomaly in the ranks of the 6th Legion, and to be assigned to his cohort is considered a punishment by many who have bought fully into Imperial propaganda. Those who survive his sometimes reckless tactics, however, come to respect the warrior, if not the man, that is the Third Tribune.
