Warcaptain Shulra Vexh, known as the Silent Eye of the Storm, is a seafaring tactician, mystic, and commander of the fleet known as the Fathomed Eye. Once a Neptaran wind-priestess cast out for defying her temple, she now commands a wind-silent armada feared across the Betshaban Ocean. Cold, precise, and eerily serene, Shulra speaks rarely and strikes without hesitation, navigating storms and enemies alike with unnerving foresight. Her crew follows a strict code of silence and discipline, and her uncanny ability to predict weather, ships, and battles has earned her a reputation not just as a pirate, but as an omen. Even among the ruthless Warcaptains of the Pirate Isles, Shulra is set apart not by fury, but by inevitability.

Overview

A calculating and unnervingly serene Warcaptain, Shulra Vexh commands the fleet known as The Fathomed Eye — a mysterious, wind-silent armada of fast, storm-sailing vessels. Known for her prophetic instincts and uncanny calm in battle, she is not the most brutal nor the most flamboyant of the Warcaptains, but she is the one of the most feared strategists in the Pirate Isles. Whispers say she sees the sea differently than others; some claim she's touched by the gods, others say she simply reads the waves more closely than anyone alive.

Description

Shulra is of Neptaran descent, tall and long-limbed, with weathered bronze skin and ink-black eyes that gleam faintly even in darkness. Her white-streaked hair is bound in long, coral-threaded braids. She wears a sleeveless, high-collared sea-leather coat embroidered with wind symbols and strange pictoglyphs, and carries no visible weapons (according to the stories, she’s never needed one in a duel). Around her neck hangs a heavy, one-eyed talisman said to be carved from a leviathan’s skull.

Background

Shulra was once a Neptaran Skymarked Reader, a priestess of Melpomene, the Nymph Queen, Goddess of Clouds and trained in navigation and wind augury. Banished for refusing to interpret omens according to a merchant family's political needs, she vanished into exile before resurfacing as a rising pirate. She won her first ship in a wager and has never stopped sailing since. Legend says her fleet has never been caught in a storm they did not bend to their advantage, and many claim she predicts enemy moves days before sails are seen.

Religious Beliefs

A former priestess of Melpomene, the Nymph Queen, it is generally believed that Shulra Vexh has rejected her former faith and taken to the worship of Taltos Deepdweller or Orthus Stormrider
